FIDDLER – Marie Ann (nee Gyoerick)
December 1, 1936 – June 7, 2009
Marie Ann Fiddler passed away peacefully on June 6, 2009. She was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, on December 1, 1936. Mom enjoyed her early years working at the PO Cafe, then for the Sisters at the Academy Presentation of Mary. The latter part of her career was spent at the O.K. Economy Store where she had a lot of fun working with Elsie and the girls. Mom married Theodore (Ted) Fiddler and had two children, Elaine and Miles, and one grandson, Joel. Mom loved playing cards and poker became an obsession early in life. Sports were also important to her as she was a big Saskatchewan Roughriders fan. When her son, Miles, was old enough to play high school football, she and dad never missed a St. Mary's Marauders game where Miles was a running back, and "second son" Barry Schrader played quarterback. The tradition carried on when grandson Joel played football as well. Marie was a bingo fanatic and for many years was a late night fixture at Bingo Gardens with Ted and her best friend and sister-in-law, Alice Zaparaniuk. After dad passed away, mom enjoyed playing the slot machines and poker. She spent many happy hours with the Vermette family and her good friends, Sharon and Elaine Vandale. After she was diagnosed with cancer, the Vandale sisters were wonderful supports for her and we will always be grateful to them. Marie Fiddler was pre-deceased by her husband Theodore “Ted†Fiddler; her father Alphonse Gyoerick and his wife Evelyn; her mother Veronica Zeeben and her husband Peter. Marie is survived by her son Miles of Prince Albert and her grandson Joel of Saskatoon; daughter Elaine of Regina; her brothers Tony, Arnie, Ed, Bernie and George Gyoerick; her sister Josephine Zinger; her half-brothers Jimmy and Jerry Gyoerick as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. Halyk, nurse Colleen Brown and the staff of the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic. Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 – 4th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK with celebrant Reverend Father Maurice Fiolleau. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. Luncheon will follow the interment at the Parkland Hall at 15th Street and 9th Avenue West. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
