The passing of Joan Lillian (Kerton) Cowie, wife of the late Donald Beecher Cowie, of Fredericton, occurred on October 13, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on September 19, 1935 in Fredericton, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Lily (Price) Kerton. Joan was a clerk at the Royal Bank of Canada, H.S. Gill & Sons and UNB. She was a member of Christ Church Parish Church where she sang in the church choir for years. Joan was very musical and loved to sing. She is survived by her sons, Joel Cowie and Brent Cowie (Lisa) both of Fredericton and Andrew Cowie (Denise Norrad) of Lincoln; grandchildren, Sarah, Kenneth, Anna and Christina; adopted grandchildren, Samantha, Anthony and Nicholas Patterson; sisters, Rose Charters of Charters Settlement and Pearl Smith (Merle) of New Maryland; sisters-in-law, Sherrie Kerton of Vancouver, BC and Alexa Cowie of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Margaret, Ida, Violet and Mildred; brothers, Robert, Benjamin, Morgan, Charles, Roger, David and Douglas Kerton.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home Ltd., 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from St. Anne's Christ Church Parish Church on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 2 pm with Rev. Anthony Kwaw officiating and Canon Elaine Hamilton assisting. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Anglican Church Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to Jobs Unlimited, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
