Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on Friday, June 12, 2009, Major Ross Hendrick Cole of South River, who turned 98 years of age on June 1st. Predeceased on February 15th, 2009 by his beloved wife of 72 years, Major Esta Beulah Cole (nee Cooper). Also predeceased in death by his parents Nimshi and Miriam Cole, sisters Ada (Joe) Hampton and Ivy in infancy, and brother Maxwell. Majors Ross and Beulah Cole had a life of commitment throughout Newfoundland in their various Salvation Army postings. Retired in South River, and lately being residents of Callingwood Downs Complex, Clarkes Beach, they continued to provide pastoral care and service to numerous activities for which the community remains grateful. Major Cole has deeply mourned the loss of his wife, to whom he lovingly refers on numerous occasions in his book recounting their experiences in Salvation Army Service. Leaving to mourn but remember with thankfulness for parental guidance are their children: sons Major Orville (Daphne) and Oren (Glenda); daughters Dona (Sherman) Stryde and Goldwyn (Clyde) Tilley. Also remembered by their 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives, friends and pastoral associates. Resting at Moore’s Funeral Home, Bay Roberts. Visitation Saturday 2-4 p.m., 7-9 a.m., Sunday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. from the Salvation Army Citadel, Bay Roberts. Interment in the Salvation Army Cemetery, Clarke’s Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Corps, Bay Roberts.
