Arthur Paul, 58, of Membertou passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late William and Lucy (Gabreau) Paul.
He was a member of St. Anne’s Mission Church and St. Anthony Daniel parish. Artie was very proud of his Mi’kmaq heritage. Before his illness, Artie was a proud foster parent. He enjoyed nature walks and visiting with members of the community. He was a craftsman and a carpenter by trade. He was an avid fisherman and he loved his fishing trips with his best friend, Donald Marshall Jr. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered as ‘Mr. Cool’ personified.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann (Melody) Rose; daughters, Tracey, Carrie Lee, Danielle, Mary Ann (Paige), Anna Isabel, Erica Savannah, Amelia Jean, Carlina Joy, Destiny; sons, Chad James and Arthur James; grandchildren, Brandon, Zackary, Jenna, Tamara, Carter, Ricky Jij, Kalie, Travis, Shaun, Thunder, Tobias, Valerie, Robbie, Cory, Akeelah, Ava; three godchildren, Cecilia Marshall, Claudine Paul and Tessa MacDonald; numerous nieces, nephews; and many foster children. Also left to mourn is brother, Chief Terry Paul.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, John W. Paul, Rene Paul, Joseph Paul, sisters, Margaret Paul, Philomena MacEwan, Mary Jane Isaac, and by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Artie will begin after 7 p.m. Tuesday, June16 at the family home on 131 Membertou St., Membertou. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Daniel Church with Fr. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Burial in Membertou Memorial Gardens.
