It is with great sadness that we the family of the Late Raymond Joseph MacNeil announce his passing on Friday, June 12, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth ‘Nancy’ (Burke) MacNeil.
For many years Joe ran the businessmen’s club of New Waterford. He was an official in the coal mines and later used his skill as an electrician to become an electrical contractor. For an extended time he was on council in Richmond County.
Joe leaves behind to mourn his three daughters, Nancy (Darryl), Musquodoboit Harbour, N.S., Juanita Halifax, Norma, Albert Bridge; three sons, Raymond, Edmonton, Alta., Bobby (Linda), Saint John, N.B., Ambrose (Erma), Mira; the mother of his children, Theresa; his sisters, Norma (Joe D.) MacPherson , Scotchtown, Marie Aitken, Mira, Mary Dewan, Sydney, Winnie (Gerald) Odo, Lingan; brothers, Eddie (Pasty), Sydney River, Ozzie (Irene), Scotchtown. He will be missed by his many loving grandchildren; great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe will be sadly missed by his dear friend, Muriel Jessome.
Besides his parents Joe was predeceased by his daughter, Debbie, son, Little Joe, grandson, Jacques Landry, brothers-in-law, Harvey Dewan and Joe Aitken.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A funeral mass will take place 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 17 in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Joseph’s Church, New Victoria, with Fr. Paul MacNeil presiding and Fr. Patrick O’Neil Homilist. Interment will be at later date in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in West Arichat. A luncheon will be held immediately following the funeral mass at the Knights Of Columbus Hall, 3236 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. All are welcomed to attend.
