We, the family of Mary Ruth (Briscoe) Fraser, 83, would like to announce her passing on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Pembroke, Ont., Ruth was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Clara (Hynes) Briscoe and was the last surviving member of 16 children.
She was a member of the United Baptist Church, Sydney. In her younger years, Ruth was very active in her community, especially activities involving the youth. For many years, she was a CGIT leader and a Sunday school leader. Ruth was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Westmount Volunteer Fire Department and Westside Legion.
She leaves behind so many loved ones, four daughters, Darlene (Ken) Morrison and Ruth (Robert) Rose, Westmount and Cathy Seale and Bonnie MacInnis, Halifax and four sons, Ron, Halifax and Phillip, Brian (Florence) and Chris (Jeannie), Westmount. Also left to grieve are 23 grandchildren and 21 great- grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and who knew her better as ‘GG’. She also leaves behind, her sister-in-law, Vivian Fraser.
Ruth was predeceased by the “Love of her Life†Osborne ‘Ossie’ Fraser; one grandson, Jason Rose; nine brothers and six sisters.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Tuesday) from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at United Baptist Church on Thursday 2 p.m., with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Special thanks to the VON Adult Day Program for their kindness. Also, thank you to the staff of Creative Care at the Cove Guest Home, the care received by the staff of 4B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Dr. MacVicar and Dr. Gowan.
