It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister and aunt Ritie Matheson on October 22, 2010 at the Glace Bay Hospital with her loving family at her side. She was a devote Roman Catholic and a member of St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay. Ritie, along with her late brother Norman were caregivers to their parents, John and Catherine (McInnis) MacIntyre.
Ritie was a gifted seamstress and would astound us with curtains and coverings made completely by hand. She loved going to bingo with her mother and nieces. In younger years Ritie with her husband Danny a decorated and dedicated veteran of World War II spent many hours dancing the night away at Branch 40 and Branch 03 Legions.
She had a special place in her heart for cats, especially for Newt and Snowflake.
Ritie had a special bond with her nieces and nephews as was seen on her 90th birthday when Catherine's family surprised her with an impromptu visit. Ritie will be sadly missed by her devoted caregivers Kathy and Mike Hurley, who made it possible for her to remain in the home she loved for many extra years.
She will be sadly missed by her sister Jessie Sickles, Ont.; nieces Colleen Bagnell, Maureen Lovell, Kathy Hurley, Joan Delaney, Elaine Gale, Donna MacDonald, Carol Boudreau, Judy Hareguy, Marie McMullin-McGoey, Arlene Harrison; nephews Jimmy Kennedy, Elliott Kennedy, David Boudreau, Archie McMullin, Jerry McMullin; grand nieces, grand nephews and special friend Gary Mann. Also surviving are brother-in-law Stuart Matheson and step daughter Charlene Campbell.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Danny Matheson; sisters Catherine (Pat) Kennedy, Adeline (Davey) Boudreau and Elizabeth; brothers Norman, Richard; nephews Pat Kennedy, Richard Kennedy; brothers-in-law Bill Sickles, Archie McMullin.
Visitation for Ritie will be held Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery.
