We announce with sadness the peaceful passing of Bettie Isabel Farrer, devoted wife of Roger G. Farrer, at the Moncton City Hospital on October 21, 2010.
Born in Valleyfield, Quebec, October 27, 1917. She is the daughter of the late William and Sybil Rowe.
Bettie is predeceased by her parents and her first husband, Herbert Norris; and an infant daughter, Sybil Louise Farrer.
Bettie will be sadly missed by daughters, Gail (Don) Imson, of Clearwater, Florida, Jane (Tim) Reed, of Naples, Florida, Susan (Colin) Stears, of Charshalton, England, and Penny (Stephen) Power, of Miramichi, New Brunswick; six grandchildren, James (Sharon) Humphrey, Roger (Carrie) Humphrey, Alastair (Phanjama) Stears, Clare Stears, Amy Reed, and Brittany Reed; and one great-grandchild, Alex Humphrey.
Bettie was a graduate nurse from Ottawa Civic Hospital, Ottawa. Her nurse training led her to employment with the Victorian Order of Nurses in Northumberland County, New Brunswick. Bettie was a member of several community organizations. She was a member of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire, also, Gideon's International. Bettie was the first lady Deputy-Mayor of Newcastle, NB. Bettie was an artist, church organist and volunteer, and a talented seamstress and knitter. Bettie and Roger enjoyed many of their winter retirement years in Florida. They are now residents at Royal Court Senior Complex, Canterbury Hall at Riverview, NB.
Honouring Bettie's wishes, there will be no visitation. There will be a graveside memorial and committal at Miramichi Cemetery, Miramichi, NB on Tuesday, October 26 at 2 pm. The family wishes to express a deep appreciation for the care given at Royal Court, Riverview and the nursing staff, emergency and Dr. Bandyayera at Moncton City Hospital.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be directed to - Gideon's, Newcastle United Baptist Church, Building Renewal Fund, Operation Eyesight or a donation of one's choice.
