Irwin Hicks

Irwin Hicks, 85 of Riverview, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Hicksville, NB. in 1925, he was the son of the late Irvine and Alice (Scammel) Hicks. Irwin was a War II Veteran having served from 1943 to 1946 with the Carleton and York Regiment in Italy, France, Holland and Germany. After the War he graduated from Community College and reentered the military in 1953 where he became an Industrial Electrician, retiring in 1974 at the rank of Warrant Officer. He then worked for the Town of Riverview, retiring in 1989. He was "Mr Fix It" to his family, and friends, and there was nothing he could not figure out how it worked, and how to repair it. Irwin attended the Wesleyan Church of Moncton and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 6 Moncton. He will be dearly missed by his wife Joan (Quelch) and sons Brian and David (Christianne), grandchildren; Shawn (Marjolen), Scott (Jaimie), Devin (Tanya), Kathryn (Brett), Jonathan, Joshua and step grandson Sebastian, as well as great-granddaughters Gracie and Madelyn Hicks and Hannah Doyle. He is also survived by one brother Douglas of Toronto, sister in laws Lorna Hicks of Petitcodiac , Phyllis Hicks of
Dawson Settlement , Dorothy Burnes of Riverview, Betty (Vince) Carr of Dartmouth, Ruth (Norman) Steeves of Dartmouth and special niece Judy Burnes Stiles of Riverview and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by daughter in laws Donna Hicks and Shawnie Lynn Hicks, as well as brothers, Reid, Harold, George and Claude and sisters, Dorothy Hopper, Clara LeBlanc, Mildred Stanton and Hazel Hicks.
In keeping with Irwin's wishes there will be no visitation. A private Veterans Memorial Service conducted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 6, followed by a private family service, with Pastor David Way officiating will be held at Cobb's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007). The interment will take place at Alderwood Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Moncton Wesleyan building fund would be appreciated by the family.
