It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Edward ‘Geezer’ Michael Hennessey, 69, of Riverside Drive, Long Island, on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, Eddie was the son of the late Pius and Sadie (MacLean) Hennessey.
‘Geezer’ was well known on the Northside, delivering milk to homes and businesses for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, the Father William Kiely Council of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer for the breakfast program at Florence Elementary School.
Surviving is his companion, Shirley MacEachern; sons, Kenny (Mirna) Hennessey, Nepean, Ont., and Shannon Hennessey, Calgary; grandchildren, Sophia and Darien; sisters, Sarah Ann Walsh, Christina (Russell) Bateman, Helen Matheson, Bernadette Hennessey; brother, Thomas Hennessey; his good friend and brother-in-law, Ronnie Walsh.
He was predeceased by brothers, Pius, Stan, Charlie, Pat, Cecil and Richard, sisters, Theresa Morgan and Lorraine Lewis.
Visitation for Eddie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home,107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Funeral Mass to be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
