RIVERTON/TRENTON – Sylvia Mae (MacIntosh) Petrie,1919-2010, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2010 at Valley View Villa, Riverton.
Born in Trenton, she was the only daughter of the late Lawrence and Lily (Barnard) MacIntosh, and spent her entire life in Trenton until moving to the Villa, her second home, nearly eight years ago.
Married in 1939 to George Petrie, Mom loved having people around and her home was a great place to find a tempting plate of goodies and was always a destination for fudge on Halloween. In her younger years she taught Cubs and was a member of the Steeltown Friendly Group and First United Church. In later years when George retired, they loaded up their little Boler trailer and followed the Blue Grass Circuit.
Sylvia is survived by son: Wayne (Marilyn) Petrie, Thorburn, and their children: Tracey (Andrew) Burke, Thorburn; Nathan, Halifax; D.J. (Mike) Poworoznyk and their children Trey and Taya, Halifax; daughter: Lynda (Garth) Chisholm, Eureka; and their children: Sheryl Chisholm, Toronto; Stephen (Angela, nee Benoit) and their children Dylan and Nicholas, Hubbards; daughter: Jacki Petrie and her daughter Megan, Toronto. She is also survived by brothers: Donald MacIntosh, Trenton; William MacIntosh, Barrie, Ont.; sister-in-law Vera MacIntosh, Trenton.
Besides her parents and husband George (1997), she was predeceased by grandson Russell Petrie (1988), Thorburn and brothers Douglas (1997) and Robert (1982).
Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton, from where funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Dr. Ken MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Trenton.
