Lawrence Foreman
Lawrence Arthur Foreman passed away at his home in Ward Settlement, NB, on Sunday, November 7, 2010, surrounded by family, following a lengthy illness. Lawrence, the son of Arthur and Annie (Hickey) Foreman, Ward Settlement, was born in Fredericton, May 15, 1946. He graduated from Stanley High School in 1964, St. Mary’s University, Halifax in 1968 with a bachelor of science; and held a bachelor of education, a post-graduate diploma in education (1978), and Masters in Education (1980) from UNB, Fredericton. He taught junior high school science subjects and high school physics and chemistry at Stanley High School from 1968 until his retirement in 1990, when he retired to a busy life working on the family farm and his woodlot. He especially enjoyed the outdoors, and had fond memories of fishing trips with his brothers and nephews. Lawrence had a long history of volunteer work with the Upper Nashwaak Lions’ Club, and the St. John Ambulance, until his illness. Lawrence was a lifelong learner with an inquisitive mind, and was an avid reader. Lawrence is survived by two sisters: Winnifred (Robert) Taylor, Saint John, NB; Anne-Marie Gorman, Stanley, NB; and seven brothers: Fred, Sault Ste Marie, ON; Neil (Gisele), and Harry (Kathy), Fredericton; Gerald, Roy (Linda), Dennis, Robert (Marilyn), Ward Settlement, NB. He is also survived by eight nieces and thirteen nephews, and several grand-nieces and nephews. Lawrence was able to live a rich life in his home for the last five years, due only to the assistance of his wonderful caregivers who became part of his extended family, most recently: Geraldine Wilkins, Barry Henderson, Linda Johnston, Marilyn Kingston, C. J. MacDonald, Trevor Menard and Janet Merritt. They made his life comfortable, but more importantly, joyful. Besides his parents, Lawrence was pre-deceased by his sister, Margaret Jean Foreman, and his brother-in-law, Keith Gorman.
Visitation will occur at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Stanley, on Tuesday, November 9th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 10th, at 11:00 am with Rev. Aaron Knox presiding. For those who wish, donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada, the SHS Homecoming 2000 Bursary Fund, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
