Helen L. Trites, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at the age of 90. Born in Stoney Creek, Albert Co., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Sadie (Wilson) Hawkes. Helen started work at the T. Eaton Co. in Moncton, worked as a hairdresser in Sussex and then moved to Boston, Mass. and continued hairdressing. In 1950, Helen became a bank teller for the Bay Middlesex Bank in the Everett office and eventually became Head Teller, a position she held for several years. Since that time, Helen has served in an official capacity in the Wilmington, Reading and Lechmere branches, managed the Teller Training Department, the Social Security Direct Deposits and the Relief Program which entailed staffing the branches during the absence of regular personnel. During her career with the Bank, Helen participated in American Institute of Banking courses and was active in church and community affairs in Quincy where she lived until 2005. Helen moved back to Canada to be close to her loving nieces and nephews and many other close friends and relatives. She attended Wesley Memorial United Church and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Helen will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews who have been her family as she never had any children. She will always be lovingly remembered for her “fast trips” and her great ability to parallel park her large cars! In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Trites (January 1947); brother, Chester Hawkes; sister, Ruby Slater; nephew Francis (Sonny) Hawkes; grand nephew, Jonathan Snowdon and grand niece, Kate Dysart.
In keeping with Helen’s wishes, there will be no visitation hours. Funeral Service will be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) Saturday November 13, 2010, 11:00am, Rev. Dr. Philip Griffin-Allwood officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the Service. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery.
