Margaret "Peggy" Hart

Margaret "Peggy" Hart

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Margaret (Peggy) Hart on Monday, November 15, 2010 in Victoria, BC. Peggy was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on December 20, 1924. She grew up there, the only child of Clarence and Emma Grant. Upon graduation from school, she worked in her father’s grocery store and then went to train at the “VG” in Halifax. She excelled as a nurse and made friendships that lasted a lifetime. When she met Robert, just home from the war, they married and she stayed home to raise her family. When she was in her 50’s and Robert’s health began to decline, she courageously dug out the books, went back to work and served the Saint John NB Region as a Public Health Nurse until she retired. She was an incredible wife and mother, and took great pleasure in keeping her home and family. Strong, sensible and practical, she was the rock of the family. Her humble nature and sense of humour allowed her to make friends easily. Never wanting to be in the limelight, she served many organizations over her life such as United Church Women and the IODE and could be always heard laughing at curling, and “Bridge Club”. Even in her elderly years, she made soup with friends for the local soup kitchen, was a warm and welcoming figure at the Parkwood, particularly at the jigsaw puzzle table, and assisted with the dispensing of medication and tucking in of each of her fellow residents at Glenwarren at night. Even when her cognitive abilities started to decline, she was regarded as “cool“, “a character”, “lots of fun” and “a wonderful woman”. Peggy was predeceased by her husband Robert E. Hart of Quispamsis, NB. She is survived by her children, Robert G. Hart (Joanne) of Ottawa, ON and Patricia L. Hart Blundon (David) of Victoria, BC. She was very proud of her grandchildren Elizabeth G. Blundon, Rebecca C. Blundon and Julia L. Blundon all of Victoria and Nathan A.G. Hart (Evelyn) of Calgary, Martin E. Hart (Michelle) and Simon R. Hart both of Ottawa. Special thanks to the staff at Parkwood Place, Glenwarren Lodge, and the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria for their great care and professionalism.
A memorial service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held in the summer of 2011 in Quispamsis, NB, when the flower pots are at their glorious best. Please contact Rob (r.hart@rogers.com) or Pat (plhblundon@shaw.ca) if you think you might like to join us, or if you have anything that you would like to share. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
