Frederick Spicer

It is with great sadness that the family of Fred Spicer announce his quiet passing at home in his living room on Thursday, November 18th, 2010 at the age of 60. Born in Kentville, NS on February 27th, 1950 he was the husband of Susan Hurley Spicer of Nasonworth. Fred leaves behind his wife, Susan; sisters, Erma (Richard) Coleman of Kingston, NS, Muriel Shaw of New Minas, NS and Ruth Jordan of New Minas, NS; as well as several nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Rufus and Clara (Webster) Spicer; brother, Frank Spicer; sister, Leone Taylor and brothers in law, Vincent Shaw and John Taylor. Fred was a member of the West Nova Scotia Regiment, the 1st Royal New Brunswick Regiment Militia Unit, The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Hiawatha Lodge # 57. He was also awarded an above and beyond certificate from the City of Fredericton in recognition of his outstanding service in the tourism industry. Fred was a commissionaire at Base Gagetown at the time of his death.
Visitation will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 525 New Maryland Highway, on Sunday November 21st, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 will hold a tribute service at 7 pm. The memorial service will be held from the church on Monday, November 22nd at 2 pm with Pastor Larry Matthews officiating. Interment will take place in the Faith Baptist Church Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Fred’s memory can be made to New Brunswick Heart and Stroke, Kidney Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
