RIVER JOHN – Darryl Scott Lochead, 43, of River John, much loved father, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully June 20th, 2009, in the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Darryl was the son of George and Dorothy (MacLean) Lochead, Sylvester.
Darryl was a graduate of West Pictou District High School, and attended Pictou Regional Vocational School in Stellarton. Darryl was a millwright by trade, and since moving home from Labrador in 1995 until the time of his illness, he was employed at Northern Pulp in Abercrombie. He was a member of CEP Local 440, and Helping Hand Oddfellows Lodge, #34.
An avid outdoorsman, Darryl enjoyed hunting by bow and rifle, fishing, and any other outdoor activity from archery to paintball to boating. He passed his love of the outdoors on to his four children, and did whatever he could to share his passion with them. Darryl played fastball and hockey for many years, and only stopped playing when his responsibilities as a father took over.
From the hockey rink to the riding ring, Darryl did whatever he could to support his children’s interests.
Darryl touched many people with his smile and his fun-loving nature. He made the most of every day; living life to the fullest.
He leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 20 years, Kim (Langille); his daughter, Allyson, and sons, Luc, Ryan and Marc, all at home; siblings, David (Catherine), Green Hill, Heather (Paul) Fillier, Durham, and Mike (Debbie), Alma; father and mother-in-law, Ronald and Greta Langille, River John; brother-in-law Trent Langille (Sharmaine), River John, sister-in-law Dawn Langille (Brian), Halifax; nieces and nephews, Matt, Jami and Dylan Fillier, Ashley, Hilary and George Lochead, Abby and Lane Lochead; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
Visitation will be in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, Monday, June 22nd, 7-9 p.m., and Tuesday, June 23rd, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. IOOF Lodge service to be held Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. Funeral service will take place Wednesday, June 24th, 1 p.m. from Salem United Church, River John, with Rev. Dr. Ken MacLeod officiating. Burial to follow in Hamilton Cemetery, River John.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit or Society, Pictou VON, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
