NEW GLASGOW – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charlotte “Lottie†Theresa Fennell, 84, on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in New Glasgow, July 30, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Frank Gerrior and Elizabeth (Ryan) Diggins Gerrior.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Frederick John Fennell. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all her family. She was a long-time member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and belonged to the CWL in her earlier years. She worked for many years in the restaurant business at McLeod’s, McRae’s and the Copper Kettle. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34 New Glasgow Ladies Auxiliary where she enjoyed working the bingos and participating in various functions. Among her pastimes were spending time with family and friends, singsongs, reading, playing darts, bingo, cards and doing crossword puzzles.
She is survived by daughters: Joan (Joe Underwood), Pictou; Rita (Art Baudoux), Plymouth; Justine (Bob Binns), Dartmouth; Mary (Keith MacDonald), New Glasgow; Ruth (Jeff Green), Stellarton; Charlotte (Jim Fitt), New Glasgow; and sons: Richard (Audrey Stewart), New Glasgow; Jerry (Rose McArthur), High River, Alberta. She was so proud to be Nanny Fennell to 21 beautiful grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Rita Lewis, New Glasgow; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Fennell) Cuthbert; Mary (MacIntosh) Fennell; and brother-in-law, Bill Chisholm.
She was predeceased by brothers: Patrick Diggins, Halifax; John Diggins, Mulgrave; Andrew Gerrior and William Gerrior, British Columbia; sisters, Cecelia Murphy, Sydney/Mississauga; Theresa Fanning, Hillside; Agatha Ehler, Guysborough County; and Mary Richard, British Columbia, and by great-grandson, Keigan Lucas.
Visitation Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Interment in Lourdes Cemetery.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, VON or charity of choice.
