Jordan, Laurine – Deacon Emeritus - 102, Truro. With sad hearts we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. On June 21, 2009, Laurine Jordan of 227 West Prince Street was called Home to the Lord. Born in Truro on April 22, 1907, she was a daughter of the late Deacon Arthur and Susan (Clyke) Paris. Laurine served as a Deacon at Zion Baptist Church for many, many years. She was an exemplary member of the Ladies Auxiliary and a faithful supporter of all church activities. She was also a member of the C.N.I.B. Laurine was a loved and respected pillar of the community. She always had a gentle smile and kind word for all who came into her company. She was an active and alert lady and lived in her own home until she was almost 100 years old. She loved keeping her lawn free from dandelions and even at nearly 100 she was often found doing just that. Laurine will be greatly missed and remembered by all of her family, friends and the community in which she was a part. She is survived by her only child, Arthur (Yvonne) Jordan, Truro; grandchildren Tina Jordan; Ardith (Kerry) Simmonds; Trevor (Jo-Anne) Jordan; Tessie Jordan; great-grandchildren Courtney Simmonds; Chance Simmonds; Trevor “T. J.” Jordan; Taran Jordan; Angel Jordan; sister, Deacon Joan Talbot, Truro, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Jordan; brothers, Albert, Sinclair and Eric Paris; sisters, Edith Jewell and Mildred Byard. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9pm, with a Zion Baptist Ladies Auxiliary Tribute Service at 7pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 24th at 2pm. Both visitation and funeral service will be held in Zion United Baptist Church, 454 Prince Street, Truro. Pastor Brian Johnston officiating. A reception will follow the funeral service. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion United Baptist Church Renovation Fund.
