Laura Lee MacKenzie, 43, of Mitchell Avenue, Dominion, passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Laura Lee was the daughter of Mary (Moffatt) Demeyere and the late Clarence Demeyere.
She was a member of Chalmers United Church, Dominion. Laura graduated in 1986 from MacDonald High School, Dominion, the Cape Breton Business College, Sydney and CHIMA in 2004.
She began her career in 1988 at Sydney City Hospital, later moving on to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and then to the Glace Bay Hospital as a health record technician. Laura Lee taught medical terminology to students in the evening at Glace Bay High School and was also a very successful business woman. She enjoyed spending time at her cottage with family and friends as well as travelling to Cuba. Laura had a deep affection for animals, especially her dog, Allie Bree. She was very proud to be a hockey and baseball mom to her two boys.
Laura loved life and had the ability to pass this passion onto all those she encountered. Outgoing, personable, a great sense of humour and hard work ethic, were all words used to describe her nature. But mostly, Laura Lee will be remembered as a loving and compassionate, daughter, wife, mother and friend.

Besides her father, Laura Lee was predeceased by two brothers, David, Clarence 'Clarie', maternal grandfather, John Moffatt, paternal grandparents, Albert and Abby Jane Demeyere and her father-in-law, Chester MacKenzie.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, with Martha MacDonald officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy for Laura, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the SPCA.
