On Saturday, November 20th, Major Edith Fern Anthony (nee Decker) passed away at the age of 81 years. The funeral service was held in Saskatoon, SK on November 25th. Fern received her Newfoundland Teacher's Certificate in 1946 and was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer in 1949 from the St. John's Training College. Prior to her marriage she served as school principal and assistant officer in Little Heart's Ease, Peter's Arm, and Bay Roberts, NL. In 1953 she married then Lieutenant Alec Anthony. Their love of music provided them with an avenue to minister their love for Jesus Christ. Together they served in numerous appointments within Newfoundland and Western Canada until their retirement, from Bay Roberts Corps, in 1990. "Where He Leads Me I Will Follow" was a declaration of commitment to her faith and to The Salvation Army. She took pride in working with the Young People's and Women's Ministries. She is predeceased by her husband, Major Alec Anthony, and her parents, Brigadier(s) Reuben and Lillian Decker. Left to celebrate her life are her children: David, Pamela Lesser, Beverley (Ronald) Garnett, Paul, Byron (Jennifer), 10 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother Frank (Selma) Decker and sister Malba (Jack) Butt).
