The family regrets to announce the passing of a wonderful dad, poppy and brother, Clifford Smith, 81 of New Haven, Victoria Co., who died Monday, June 22, 2009 at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour.
Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late John and Mary Smith.
He was a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. He was a fisherman by trade but was well known for his knowledge of twine, which he was happy to pass on to the many students he taught across the province while employed with the N.S. School of Fisheries. He was a founding member of the NHNH Volunteer Fire Department. He served on St. Andrew’s Vestry for a number of years and was a former board member of the Victoria Co-op Fisheries. He was a jack of all trades and always available to assist anyone who needed help.
He is survived by his daughter, Francene (Dave) Donovan, New Haven, with whom he resided, Joy (Dale) Scherr, Brighton, Ont. and sons, Dale (Linda), New Haven, Don (Hennie) Budge, Lr. Sackville; sisters, Miriam, Mary Belle, Winnie, all of New Haven, Ann, Ottawa and brother, Jim, New Haven. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his long time companion, Irene Ingram. He will be greatly missed by all.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ella (Budge); brothers, Stewart, Everette, Fred, John; a sister, Roseanne and his grandson, Nicholas.
The late Mr. Smith will have no visitation. Funeral services will be celebrated Friday, June 26, 2009 at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery.
