We regret to announce the passing of Violet MacLean, 92, of Ingonish, on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at her home.
Born in Ingonish on August 23, 1916, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Lillian (Wilson) Hardy. She was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Ingonish.
For years, Violet ran a canteen next to her husband Ernie’s barbershop. Later she worked part-time for Canada Post. She was a very independent woman, who took great pride in her independence. She remained active until her final days, even baking when company came to visit. She was very interested in, and a part of her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren’s lives. Violet will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Donald (Gail) MacLean and her grandchildren, Tiffany and Brandon MacLean, all of Ingonish. She is also survived by one brother, Ewart Hardy, Ingonish; sisters, Mary Matthews, Sydney, Florence Burgess, Truro, Blanche Bayliss and Shirley (Val) Dumais, both of Ontario, and many nieces and nephews, of whom she was very fond.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ernest MacLean; brothers, George (Margaret) Hardy, Duncan (Pat) Hardy, and her sister, Minnie (John) MacLean.
Visitation for Violet MacLean will be held in St. John’s Anglican Church, Ingonish, on Thursday, June 25, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate her life will take place on Friday at 12 noon in St. John’s Anglican Church, with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Violet’s memory may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangement have been entrusted to J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
