Tony LaRusic passed away peacefully,in the presence of his family on Tuesday, June 23,2009 at his second home, Taigh na Mara, Glace Bay. Tony was born in Bay St. Lawrence, Victoria County on February 3,1914, the eldest of the thirteen children of Patrick and Lena (Capstick) LaRusic.
A carpenter by trade, he worked in the woods in his early years and later worked in Sydney for Chappell’s Ltd. He volunteered for service in World War II with the Royal Canadian Engineers with rank of Sapper. He took part in the D Day landing and saw action in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. While in England, he met ‘the only girl in his life’, Frances Plumridge, his wife of 63 years. He worked for Odhams Limited in Watford until 1959 when he, Frances and their daughter Anne moved back to Canada.
Tony returned to work at Chappell for a year and spent the rest of his working life as an airport attendant with the Department of Transport at Sydney Airport. Tony was a man of great faith who loved nothing better than to travel with Frances and work in his garden at the bungalow at Hillside, Mira.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, daughter, Anne and son in law, John MacDonald of Sydney. Four grandsons; Bruce(Lorraine) and David (Joanne), St. John’s NL; Andrew(Alisha) ,Charlottetown, PE and Sandy,Halifax and five great grandchildren; Grace, Emily, Noah, Jack and Anthony. Four sisters; Sr. Patrice CSM, Josie, Theresa (George) and Evelyn and three brothers; Jim (Millie), Ignatius and Joe (Liz) and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Pat and Lena LaRusic, sisters Anne, Mary and Rita and brothers Tim and Emery.
At Tony’s request there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Sydney on Thursday, June 25,2009 at 10:00 am with Fr. Anthony O’Connor officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends after the service at TW Curry Parkview Chapel. Interment to take place on Friday June 26, at 11:00 am in St. Margaret’s Cemetery, St. Margaret’s Village. Family flowers only by request. As a memorium, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
