It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Major Roger James Henderson, 86, of Lower Sackville, N.S., on December 2, 2010, he left his home at 35 Meadowlands Park Drive to go to the home prepared for him in heaven.
He was the son of the late Frederick and Beatrice (Whitlock) of Charlottetown, P.E.I. He served as an active Salvation Army officer for 23 years in places as Newmarket, Ont, Woodstock and Saint John, N.B., and Truro, Kentville and Halifax, N.S. Following early retirement because of ill health, he continued to serve God as a faithful soldier of the Fairview Corps.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis; son, David (Margaret Ann); daughter, Linda Julian; two chosen daughters, Gloria Bourden, with whom he resided, and Major Barbara Penney of Toronto, Ont.; former daughter-in-law, Heather McDonald (Robert); and his dearly loved dog of 13 years, Jake; five grandchildren, Jimmy Tracy, Jennifer, Colin and Corey Henderson, and Nicole Julian; and five great- grandchildren. He is also survived by five nieces and sister-in-law, Marion Henderson. He was predeceased by son, Paul Frederick, and brother, Warren.
Remains will be resting at The Salvation Army Fairview Citadel, Gesner Street, with visitation from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, and funeral service at 7:30 p.m.
Interment in the People's Cemetery in Charlottetown, P.E.I. There will be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, December 6.
No flowers by personal request, but donations may be made to the Salvation Army Fairview Corps.
