It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, wife, sister and aunt.
Doris Elizbeth (MacIntosh) Gavey was born in Sydney on December 21, 1927, the daughter of RCMP Inspector John Murray MacIntosh and Bertha Clara Dixon.
Doris passed away peacefully after a short illness in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010.
She spent her early years in Yarmouth and after high school graduation she moved to Ontario where she lived for many years returning to Yarmouth in 1986.
She enjoyed working in the garden, watching and feeding the birds, knitting and chatting with her friends and neighbours.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Gavey-Surette; grandchildren, Alexandra, Nicholas, Matthew, and Samantha, all of Yarmouth; husband, Stan; brothers, Charlie MacIntosh, Summerside, Frank (Dorothy) MacIntosh, Yarmouth; sisters, Eileen (Tony) Capobianco of Westborough Mass.; Vivian Winsor, Truro, Ann (Jim) MacIntosh, River Denys; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by her brother, Edward; sister, Genevieve Cook; niece, Donna Lee MacIntosh; grandnephew, Jordan Roberts.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Yarmouth.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. followed by a memorial service in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, Yarmouth, with Rev. Jim Bragan and Pastor Larry Pennell officiating . Committal service will be held in the spring of 2011 in the family plot at Gillis Cove Cemetery, Orangedale, Cape Breton.
