John Bent

Bent, John Harris "Harry" - With his loving family by his side, John Harris "Harry" Bent passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Friday December 17, 2010. Born in Belleisle, Annapolis Co., NS, he was a son of the late Harold and Laura (Phinny) Bent. Harry was an Air Force pilot during World War II. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch #4, the Fredericton Golden Club and the Fredericton Curling Club and attended St. Dunstan's R.C.C. Harry was an avid fly and ice fisherman. He is survived by his loving wife of one day short of 63 years Rita and she used to say they "lived in each other's pocket". Also surviving are a brother Ronald Bent of Belleisle, Annopolis Co., NS; a sister-in-law Helen Mullin of Saint John, NB; several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a brother Gerald Bent and a special niece Tina Dixon.
The family will receive friends at Bishop's Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road Fredericton on Monday December 20, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday December 21, 2010 at 12:00 pm at St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic Church with Father Gerry White officiating. Interment will be held at the Hermitage Cemetery at a later date.
Contributions to the Kidney Dialysis Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, the Palliative Care Unit at the Chalmers Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. The Royal Canadian Legion branch #4 will hold a tribute service for Harry at Bishop's Funeral Home on Monday evening at 7:00 pm.
