Carl Sydney Rushton, 88, of Lower Truro Road, Truro, passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
Born in Westchester Station, he was a son of the late Oliver and Charlotte (Weatherbee) Rushton.
Carl was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Princess Louise Fusiliers and the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp. He owned and operated Rushton’s Service Station in Truro for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.26 Truro, the People’s Church Truro and a former member of the Wesleyan Church in Westchester Station. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was also a big Blue Jays fan. Carl was a family man who loved and enjoyed his family very much.
He is survived by his wife the former Erma Florence Murray; son Brian (Kathryn), North Vancouver; daughters Martena (Wendell) Hendsbee, Truro; Gwen Rushton, Truro; brother Myles (Georgie), Sutherlands Lake; grandchildren Amy (Chris) Dail, Craig (Kate), Gerred, Adam; great-grandson Peter Dail; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters Grace, Edna, Cyretha, Kathleen, Ruby, Ida; brothers Ralph, Clarence, William, Oscar, Alton.
Visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, June 29, and funeral service, 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St. Truro, Pastor Ken Fillmore and Pastor Chesley MacKenzie officiating, with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Interment will then follow in the Eagle Hill Cemetery, Westchester Station. Family flowers only.
