It is with heavy hearts that the family of Sid Musgrave, 86, a longtime resident of Frenchvale, announce his passing on Saturday June 27, 2009, at his home.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Sidney ‘Sid’ and Josie (MacMullin) Musgrave.
Sid was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Canadian Armored Corp.
He was a long time member of St. Mary’s parish, Frenchvale.
Sid was employed with Co-op Building Supplies, Kings Road, Sydney for 25 years, retiring in 1988. He was a founding member of the Frenchvale Road Volunteer Fire Department and went on to retire as chief. He loved baseball and played as a catcher for the Suburban Baseball League for Frenchvale. He was also a huge fan of the Detroit Red Wings. Sid was well known for his quick wit and sense of humour, he was always able to make people laugh especially his family.
He is survived by his wife, Willena ‘Billie’ (Hanson) Musgrave; seven daughters, Louise (Ernie) McBride, Sydney, Donna (Johnnie) Deleskie, Balls Creek, Chris (Billy) MacPhee, Sydney Forks, Mary (Michael) MacPhee, Frenchvale, Susan Henrich, Enfield, Margaret (Fred) Musgrave, Elmsdale, Roberta (Mike) Laperriere, Victoria, B.C.; two sons, Jimmy (Sherry) Musgrave, Frenchvale, and Siddie (Carolyn) Musgrave, North Bay; also by his several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his brother, Roddie (Jean) Musgrave, Frenchvale; sisters, Jane (Bernie) MacLeod, Sydney River, Georgina (Joe) Fraser and Lillian (Clarence) Jennex, both of New Victoria.
Besides his parents, Sid was predeceased by a son in infancy, brothers, Martin, Charlie, Danny and Dougie Musgrave, a sister, Christine and son-in-law, Donnie Henrich.
Visitation for Sid will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church, Frenchvale, with Rev. Dan MacInnis officiating. Burial to take place in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Dialysis Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
