It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Ley, on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Stan and Elizabeth (Jeans) Burton.
Eleanor loved bingo and enjoyed her shopping trips to Zellers. Eleanor had a quick wit and was known for speaking her mind.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Lois (Gus) MacLean, with whom she lived with for 25 years; sons, Gordie (Donita), Barrie, Ontario, Bernie (Diane), North Sydney, Dave (Judy) Sydney, Allie (Charlotte), East Bay; sisters, Hilda Steele, Edna Ponee, Marge MacIntyre and extended family members, Ann, Nancy and Judy.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kevin, Sydney, Shauna, Albert Bridge, Gordon Jr., Colleen, Norma and Tammy, all of Ontario, Janet, Karen, David Jr., Kenny Barry Darren, Allan Jr, all of Sydney, Lois, New Glasgow, as well as many great-grandchildren, who she loved dearly.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Sr.; son, Charles Ley Jr. and daughter, Sharon in infancy; brothers, Melvin Burton, Stanley Burton, Wallace Burton; sisters, Dorothy Penny, Phyllis Williston and Norma Wadden.
Eleanor will be sadly missed by all of her family as well as the staff at the Cove Guest Home, with whom she made quite an impression on.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Cove Guest Home and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 24, 2010 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Kirk Neville officiating. Interment to follow in Hardwood Hill Cemetery. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to a charity of choice.
