Gerry Thompson

Gerry Thompson

With profound sadness, the brothers and sisters of Clifford Gerard "Gerry" Thompson announce his peaceful death at New Glasgow's Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, on December 23, 2010.
Born at Antigonish on May 6, 1940, he was the very special son of the late Gibbons and Mary (MacFarlane) Thompson, who provided Gerry with 60 years of loving care and guidance. He spent his working life on the family farm at Plymouth, where his care and concern for all farm animals was obvious to all. His many nieces and nephews, all adults now, were a great joy in his life. As children, they remember Gerry's gentle but firm supervision of their play at the farm.
There is a saying "it takes a community to raise a child." So true in the case of Gerry! All the people who knew him showed kindness, understanding and love for which the family is very thankful. In particular, we wish to thank the farming neighbors of Plymouth who assisted Gerry after the health of his father failed.
In recent years, Gerry was a resident of Thomas Lane, Parkview, Sutherland Valley, and Riverview Home's, where he received excellent care from all staff members. The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to these caregivers who were Gerry's loving extended family.
Gerry is survived by six brothers: Ronald (Anne), Calgary; James (Ann), Halifax; Leo (Sara), Plymouth; Jack (Ruth), Plymouth; Joe (Sharon), Dartmouth; Leonard (Kathy), Stellarton; four sisters: Miriam (Jim) Sears, Plymouth; Lillian (George) Moser, Plymouth; Minnie (Bob) MacDonald, MacLellan's Brook; and Camilla (Charlie) Sutherland, Westville.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Church of the Holy Name in Westville. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Stellarton.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Riverview Home Corp., Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
