We regret to announce the passing of Roderick 'Roy' Farrell, a loving son, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather, on Dec. 23, 2010, at home.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Margaret (MacNeil) and the late Bernard Farrell.
Roy was a member of the former St. Agnes Church, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. He loved old cars and was fond of his own 1959 Ford Fairlane. Roy was employed with Devco for 24 years, working in Lingan, Phalen and Prince Mine. When he retired, he moved back to the family home to care for his parents. Roy had a great love for his family. Any spare time was spent at the manor with his mother or with his brothers and sisters who were extremely close. He had a special place in his heart for his cat, Tiger and his dog, Jackson.
He is survived by children, Willie (Jessica Reid) Farrell and Craig Farrel; sisters, Bernice (Dan) McDonald, Louise (Tom) Nugent, Betty (Edward) Grace, all of New Waterford, Muriel (Doug) Lively, Halifax; brothers/best friends, Greg (Carol) Farrell, George (Evelyn Joanne) Farrell, both of New Waterford; grandchildren, Auston, Paige and Heaven Ann; nieces and nephews; and former wife, Josephine (McLellan), New Waterford.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Roy will be held Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's parish hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia.
