DICKS, Anna Marie –Ending a life that displayed remarkable character and ability, Anna Dicks passed peacefully away at the age of 94 on October 14, 2008, attended by her loving family and the devoted staff of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home. Born in Conception Harbour she began her adult life as a teacher travelling throughout the province eventually settling in Rushoon on the Burin Peninsula where she lived for 40 years. In 1985 she moved to St. John’s. She was predeceased by her infant son Gerard, her husband Ignatius, her parents John and Norah Keating, brothers John Keating and Bernard Keating, sisters Helen Keating and Kathleen Keating, Mary Walsh, Clara Fowler and Agnes Giordano. Leaving to mourn her daughters: Shirley Philpott (Cory) of Virginia, Jan Dicks of St. John’s; grandchildren: Kyle Philpott of Virginia, Paul Thistle and Gwen Thistle of St. John’s; sister Gertrude Thomas of St. John’s and brother William Keating of Holyrood; special nephew Jerome Keating (Christina) of St. John’s; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews and a wide circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave., Wednesday, October 15th, 6 to 9 p.m. A liturgy service will be held in the chapel at Barrett’s on Thursday, October 16th, 10 a.m. Following the service, Anna will travel to Rushoon to rest at Christ the King Church on October 16th with visitation after 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 17th, the time to be announced. Interment to follow at the Rushoon Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to St. Patrick’s Mercy Home
