Sarah Gilmore (Shackley) Ellsworth

Sarah Gilmore (Shackley) Ellsworth, 80, passed away on December 27, 2010 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital. COPD complications hindered Sarah's recovery from recent hip surgery, however, her passing was peaceful with her daughters by her side. A resident of Willow Avenue, Sarah was born and raised in New Glasgow. Sarah worked for many years at MacGregor Bedding and was a talented seamstress who also enjoyed gardening. Sarah generously contributed to her community in many ways and was a very dedicated volunteer with The Red Cross, The Canadian Cancer Society and The Pictou County Health Authority.
Sarah was actively involved delivering Meals on Wheels and canvassing for The Heart and Stroke Foundation. And, last but not least, Sarah was a 'Tory' to the bitter end.
Sarah was predeceased by her husband, William (Bill) Ellsworth; and daughter, Irene Star. Surviving are daughters, Linda (Gary) MacKean, Little Harbour; Jane (Rick) Upham, Truro; and Faye Ann (Denis) Renaud, Montreal. Sarah will be missed by grandchildren: Lisa Rutledge, Durham; Christopher (Leo Gaston) LaRochelle; Jonathan (Melanie) LaRochelle, Montreal; Mark Star, Bermuda; and Amy (Matt) Redmond, Truro. 'Nanny with the cookies' will also be missed by great-grandchildren: Dustan and Kory Northrupp and Jennifer and Dominique LaRochelle. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Family committal will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Condolences at: www.rhporter.ca
