It is with great sadness and many fond memories we announce the passing of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Alma Layes, 69, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010.
Alma was born in Glace Bay, Jan. 4, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Jim and Jennie (McEwan) Boozan.
Alma loved a good cup of tea and game of bingo. She made friends wherever she went. She was a true Cape Bretoner at heart although she lived in Grande Cache, Alta. for 36 years. She was happy to retire at "home".
She was a life member of the ladies auxiliary of Branch 278 Legion in Grande Cache.
Alma is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Lloyd; two daughters, Brenda, Edmonton, Cheryl, Grande Cache; two sons, Jamie (Jody), Grande Cache, Andy, Saskatoon; and a number of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alma is also survived by her sister, Audrey (Pat Burke), Toronto; brothers, Mick (Elenor), Billy (Ann), Glace Bay, Andy (Yvonne), Marmora, Ont.
Besides her parents, Alma was predeceased by a son, Jamie, in infancy, also her sisters, Margie, Mary, Edie and Jean.
At Alma's request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

Alma died as she lived, with dignity and grace
and was loved by all who knew her.
