Alice Rae
COALBURN - Alice Gertrude Rae passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, January 6, 2011, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born January 12, 1923 in Caribou River, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Ida (MacDonald) Holmes.
Alice was a resident of Coalburn for the majority of her life with the exception of a few years spent in Vancouver, BC.
Alice enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her accurate weather forecasts, out spoken personality, and love of animals.
Alice is survived by her son, Donnie (Joyce) Rae, Coalburn; daughter, Gayle (Sam) Fraser, Coalburn; grandchildren: Stephanie (Jason) Cameron, Julie (Jeff) MacDonald, Sandy (Stephanie) Fraser, Brandy (Ross Henley) Fraser; great-grandchildren: Isaac and Clara Cameron, Carson, Benjamin, and Bransen MacDonald, and Cyrus Fraser; sister, Evelyn Henderson, Coalburn; brother, Mack (Laura) Holmes, Fox Brook; sister-in-law, Gloria Holmes, Fox Brook, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband, Jack Rae; brother, George Holmes and brother-in-law, Wallace Henderson.
Visitation will be held at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, on Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. from where the funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial will be in the Castle Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in memory of Alice may be made to the S.P.C.A or to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society.
