The death occurred at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, of Doris Frost, of Summerside, aged 87 years.
Born in Rosebank, she was the daughter of the late Hampton and Matilda (Crockett) Horne. Survived by her children Kendall Forbes, Summerside; Hal Forbes (David Archibald), Halifax, N.S.; Barbara Forbes (Maurice Bernard), Summerside; Alex (Stacey) Forbes, Fredericton, N.B.; stepchildren Peggy (Barrie) Phillips, Arlington; Martin Frost, B.C.; Frances Frost, Woodstock; Patricia (Wendell) Gillis, Ellerslie; Jessie Frost-Wicks (Bill Wicks), Charlottetown; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Douglas Horne, Alberton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen (Bruce) Small, Mary Houston, Barbara (Robert) Baldwin and Wilfred (Miriam) Forbes.
Predeceased by her first husband, Sidney Forbes; second husband, Lloyd Frost; and by her sister, Jean Cameron.
Doris was a graduate from Prince of Wales College. She began her teaching career in 1939, teaching in the Rosebank Kelvin Grove, Travellers Rest and Summerside school districts. Doris finished her career after teaching for 22 years at Parkside Elementary. Upon retirement, Doris volunteered with Project L.O.V.E., Literacy Programs at Notre Dame Place and at the Prince County Hospital gift shop.
After losing her first husband Sidney Forbes in 1967 to a boating accident, Doris married Lloyd Frost in 1971. Later in life they enjoyed travelling, in particular to the Veterans Celebration in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, commemorating the 50th anniversary of victory in Europe. While there, they were billeted in Heerde, Netherlands with their gracious Dutch family, Willam and Marjan Van LoHuizen and family, with whom life-long bonds were made.
Resting at Trinity United Church, 90 Spring St., Summerside, where visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Church, Summerside. Interment in People's Cemetery, Summerside.
