It is with deep sadness that we the family of Isabel Ferguson announce her passing. Isabel, a resident of Seaview Manor, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Mabel (MacLean) Morrison and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Isabel was a well known contralto soloist in her younger years and often sang in festivals, weddings, local concerts and guest features on CBC radio programs. She was an accomplished piano player and enjoyed skating well into her 80s.
A member of the United Church most of her life, Isabel had a very strong faith and participated in her church life as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, a UCW life member and a church elder.
Isabel will be sadly missed by her children, Ron (Donna), Glace Bay, Ralph (Anne) Pictou, Diane (Ron) MacDiarmid, Hamilton, Ont.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Neil, sons Kenneth and infant Robert Gordon; sisters Marjorie Morrison, Glen Muggah, Claire Peterson and brother Clifford Morrison.
In honoring Isabel's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 10, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service celebrating Isabel's life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. John Finlayson and Rev. Ralph Johnston officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home, all are welcome. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Isabel's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or a charity of one's choice.
