It is with saddened hearts that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother, Dorothy Sparling on Jan. 6, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney on July 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Annie and Richard Lovell.
In Dorothy's earlier days she worked at Holy Angel's convent as a housekeeper. She loved needle work and stayed on top of the news by watching her favourite TV channel, CNN. Dorothy will be remembered by her family as a loving and quiet lady.
Dorothy is survived by six children, Anthony (Ruth) Lovell, Manitoba, Delores Lovell Annamichel, Sydney, Martin (Donna) Lovell, Sydney, Margaret (Raymond) Hunt, Ontario, Vincent (Stacy) Sparling, Sydney, and Michael Sparling, Ontario. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Talbot, Ontario; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Sparling, two sons, David and Stephen Lovell, and a sister, Lil Talbot.
Visitation for the late Dorothy Pauline Sparling will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Tuesday, Jan. 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at St. Phillips African Orthodox Church with Archbishop Vincent Waterman officiating. Reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney, at a later date.
Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to charity of one's choice.
