NEW GLASGOW - Gerald Langford Radcliffe, age 80, passed away January 7, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital.
He was predeceased by parents, Frederick and Zelpha (Langford) Radcliffe, of London, Ontario.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he grew up in Toronto. He attended high school in Montreal West, where he met his wife of 58 years, June. He went on to study commerce at McGill University. He began his career at IBM where he worked for 20 years. Subsequently, he was a Canadian Tire dealer for 20 years, which brought him to Nova Scotia. He was known for his wit and love of motorcycles and fast cars. He was an accomplished motorcycle racer with trophy wins from Mosport and Shubenacadie Race Tracks. In particular he was known for his love of animals and enjoyed spending time caring for his many "critters". His favourite place was Lake of Bays, Ontario. He spent retirement travelling throughout Canada and the USA.
He is survived by his wife, the former June Loucks; children: Doug (Pat) Radcliffe; Judy (Peter) Rutledge; Nancy Radcliffe; grandchildren: Jennifer, Angela, Gavin and Brett; brother: Kenneth Radcliffe, Calgary; sister: Mary Ruth (David) McLelland, Kitchener; sister-in-law, Betty Frampton, England; nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the SPCA or the Food Bank.
Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
