ETHEL MILLER
Date de naissance : 15 juin 1913
Date de décès : 15 décembre 2010
Ethel Marjorie Miller of Gravelbourg, SK passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at the age of 97 years. Ethel was born on June 15, 1913, to Charles and Jane Gingell, on the family farm near the Wood River, northeast of Gravelbourg. She attended Wiseman School, getting there by either walking or riding her horse. Ethel was a self-declared tomboy, riding horses and herding cattle. She told many stories about playing ball, swimming at the river and catching gophers for their tails. In 1935, Ethel married Harry Miller and they were blessed with six children, Gail, Maureen, Glen, Morris, Bruce and Judy. Together they farmed for many years; not an easy task in the 1930's during the depression and drought. Farming was much better from the 1940's on. Around that time, they expanded the farm, with Ethel's brother Norman and later their three sons farming with them. Ethel was involved with the Ladies Aid, served on many boards at the United Church and visited many elderly people in the community. Ethel enjoyed her yearly visits to the nursing home, where she dressed up for Halloween, the Easter bunny and Mrs. Clause to hand out goodies. Ethel's greatest joy was her grandchildren, whom she kept filled with cookies and fresh buns. Ethel is survived by her daughter Gail (Wilfred) Jacob; daughter Maureen Grant; son Glen (Paulette) Miller; son Morris (Denise) Miller; son Bruce Miller; daughter Judy (Dan) Tremblay; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister-in-law Muriel Gingell. Predeceased by her husband Harry; brothers Donald, Norman, Clifford, Ken (twin brother); sister Annie; son-in-law Gethyn Grant; and daughter-in-law Doris Miller. Funeral Service was held on Monday, December 20, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Stephen's United Church, Gravelbourg, SK with Reverend Linda Tomlinson officiant. Corey Miller and Heather Grant shared the eulogy. Her great-grandchildren Eric Hawkins, Carly Firth and Tatiana Dutka read a favorite story of Ethel's, The Little Red Hen. The United Church choir was accompanied by organist Addie Paton. Active pallbearers were grandchildren Ryan Miller, Trevor Tremblay, Heather Grant, Holly Johnson, Ron Miller and Roger Miller. Interment at Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw, SK. Memorial tributes in memory of Ethel to Foyer d'Youville Foundation Quiet Room, Box 810, Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0, were greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapels, Assiniboia & Gravelbourg, (306)642-5551 or (306)648-2633.
