We, the family of Linda Boone, regret to sadly announce her untimely transition from here on Earth to heaven. Linda passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at her home surrounded by love with her family and friends.
Born in Glace Bay, Linda was the daughter of the late Samuel 'Sam' and Olga (Kelloway) Gilmet.
She was a lunch and grounds supervisor with Cape Breton District School Board at St. Anne's School, Glace Bay. She had many other jobs throughout her life assisting many people through times of need. Linda was an avid card player and especially enjoyed playing Texas Hold Em with her close friends better known as "The Original 6."
Linda was a very outgoing person, always smiling and never complained. In earlier years Linda would always be planning summer camping trips with her family where they would spend many hours sitting around the campfire; these were times Linda truly enjoyed. She will be missed by all.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Michael, whom she often referred to as her rock. She is also survived by her best friend and daughter, Tracie; her grandson, Jordan, whom she raised and loved as her own son; granddaughters, Jessica and Haley; and her faithful pet cat, Blue, who never left her side. Linda is also survived by her sisters, Karen Kennedy, Pam Perry (Billy), Helen Toomey (Gerald); brothers, Joey Gilmet (Darlene), Sammy Gilmet (Wendy), Bobby Gilmet (Chrissy); mother-in-law, Joan Boone; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and close friends.
Besides her parents, Linda was predeceased by her sister, Janet Gilmet and brother, Walter Gilmet.
Visitation for Linda will be held Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. A luncheon will follow.
Donations in Linda's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Palliative Care in hopes of someday finding a cure.
