Agnes (MacLeod) Hay's journey has come to a restful conclusion, Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital while surrounded by kind and loving hearts.
Agnes was born March 15, 1914, to Robert and Annie (Smith) MacLeod of Glace Bay, where she resided all her life.
A kind and loving spirit, Agnes was possessed of an artistic talent which expressed itself through the beauty of her flower gardens and the wonderful sea and snow scapes done in oil. A marvelous nurturing spirit could be tasted in her famous 'Fat Archie Cookies' which she generously shared to all who loved them. Her selfless compassion was experienced by all who came to know her.
A deep religious belief helped to sustain Agnes in times of stress and through the pain of illness. Her riveting sense of humor kept everyone in high spirits, especially during family gatherings.
Agnes, the last surviving member of the MacLeod family was predeceased by her husband, Thomas MacKenzie Hay, son, Robert Alexander 'Sandy', daughter, Marion Campbell. She was also predeceased by sisters, Ida, Bertie, Etta, Chris and Margie, two brothers, Donald and Art in the Second World War.
Her family left without their precious 'Mama' include, Buddy 'Tom' (Jean), Glace Bay, Art (Cheryl), Ottawa, Nina (Al) Redding, Saint John, N.B., Jean Anne, with whom she resided of Glace Bay, and son-in-law, Bernie Campbell, Glace Bay. Agnes will be deeply missed by her many nieces and nephews, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one precious great great-grandchild, Ella.
Agnes was a member of Newsom United Church, Glace Bay. She cherished her friendships with the ladies of Newsom UCW and all her neighbours. Agnes' care was entrusted to a loving and caring team of friends, 'Her Guardian Angels'!
Visitation to honor Agnes will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., and Glace Bay. A funeral service will be celebrated 2 p.m. Friday at Newsom United Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Michael Goodfellow and Rev. Dr. John Finlayson officiating.
