1920-2011. Passed peacefully away on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Palliative Care Unit, Miller Centre, John Holmes, aged 90 years. John was born in London, England on July 11, 1920. He was a veteran of WWII. John came to Newfoundland in 1951 as an actor with the Newfoundland Theatre Company, subsequently worked for VOCM and went on to a 25 year career with CBC. After retirement John continued working as a freelance writer and reviewer for The Evening Telegram as well as a board member for various arts associations. John's last years were as a volunteer and honorary secretary for the SPCA. In his later years he retired with his books and animals at home.
