EMENAU, Harold Archibald - 97, passed away at home in Brooklyn Queens Co., December 30, 2010. Harold was born in Mahone Bay on January 13, 1913, to Charles A. and Anne B. (Snair) Emenau. The family moved to Springfield in 1917 where Harold lived until he was 16, and moved to Brooklyn to work in the construction of the Mersey Paper Company. He worked in the paper mill for 46 years, the last 30 years as superintendent of the finishing department. At 62, Harold retired and opened Emenau Subdivision in Brooklyn, where he helped to build ten houses. Harold was predeceased by his wife of 71 happy years, Elizabeth Ford; his sister Mildred, and brothers, Walter, Robert, Arthur and Frederick "Ted". Harold and Elizabeth had two children, Dr. Paige (Colleen) Emenau, Gail (Fred) Goodwin, Hants Border. There were seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Harold was a member of Pilgrim United Church, Brooklyn; he served on many committees and was very active in the Sunday School. He was treasurer of the South Shore Presbytery for 45 years. He enjoyed working as director and treasurer for the United Church Youth Camp at Lake Sherbrooke for 40 years. Harold was also involved with the Boy Scouts. Harold and Elizabeth enjoyed square dancing, travelling, skating, swimming, fishing and boating. Harold curled for 25 years, and loved to play cards. He will be greatly missed by the community and all his family who were all so important to him. A special thanks to all the caregivers who made it possible for him to stay in his home until the end. Harold's body was donated to Dalhousie University for medical research. A memorial service will be held at a later dat.
