Allan Roy Crewe - 83, of New Minas, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Dawsons Cove, Hermitage, Newfoundland on April 18, 1927, he was the youngest son of the late Curtis and Dorothy (Roberts) Crewe. He taught school for a few years before leaving Newfoundland in 1949. A businessman all of his life, he owned and managed a BA Service Station in Dartmouth and was in charge of construction and maintenance carpentry for F. W. Robinson. He owned and managed the A. R. Crewe Siding, Doors and Windows Company until his retirement in 1985. While living in Lockhartville, he was a member of the Lockhartville United Baptist Church and choir and was Cub Master for the Lockhartville Cub Group. He was also a member of the Wolfville Curling Club. He loved music and played the violin, guitar and button accordion for his friends and family. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing and barbequing with friends. He was a lifetime member of the Orange Lodge in Hermitage and also a lifetime member of St. Saviours Anglican Church. Roy is survived by his two daughters, Pamela (Bud) McCarthy, Hantsport; Pauline (John) O'Keefe, St. John's Newfoundland, six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nephews; sisters, Beatrice Proude, Burlington, Ontario; Mildred (Gerald) West, North Grand Pré; his former wife, Gertrude (Vincent) Crewe, Bay L'Argent, Newfoundland. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Beverly Babcock; a brother, Gerald; a great grandson, Brock. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011 in the Lockhartville United Baptist Church, Reverend Gail Whalen-Dunn officiated. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
