Darren Wayne James Saab - age 42, of Halifax, formerly Saint John, NB and Windsor, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2011, in Windsor, at the place he loved. Born on August 27, 1968, in Halifax, he was the son of Gordon and Jeanette (MacDonald) Saab, Halifax. Darren was manager of Castle's Funeral Home, Saint John, NB, for the last 3 years and previous to that was manager of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, for 10 years, and also manager at Atlantic Funeral Home, Halifax. In his early years, he had also worked at other funeral homes, including, J. Albert Walker's, Spryfield. Darren was an alter server for many years, at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, Halifax, attended St. Stephen's Junior High School, and graduated from St. Pat's High School, both in Halifax. He always had fond memories of Short's Lake, Bayswater and Windsor. Darren was a former member and vice-president of the Windsor Sam Slick Days committee, and was entertainment committee chairman, arranging the groups, such as Alana Myles, Stampeders, Northern Pikes and other known groups. Darren enjoyed a good time, and the party started when he arrived. He became part of everyone's family. He loved his work and was devoted to his profession, helping many families through difficult times. He had often said of his employer, "Thank God for Arbor". Surviving besides his parents, Gordon and Jeanette Saab, are his brothers, Gordie Saab, Bedford; Kevin Saab (Natalie Trask), Halifax; niece, Jessica Saab; nephews, Ian Saab and John Trask; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; also by his lifelong friend, Eddie Carroll, who was like a brother. Darren is also survived by his special friends, Dewar, Helen, Dorene, Avery and all the staff at Lindsay's; Cheryl Boyd, at Castle's and also Rick Hartlen. Darren was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Alice (DeYoung) Saab; grandparents, Abraham and Mamie (Sapp) Saab; Archie and Lois (Thorpe) MacDonald. Visitations were 7-9 pm Wednesday, January 5, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor; also 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 6, at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. Funeral Mass was 11 a.m. on Friday, January 7, 2011, in Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish (St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church), 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax. The Rev. Father Duncan MacMaster officiated, followed by a reception the church hall. Interment will be held at a later date.
