Elinor Joyce Burke - age 81, of Poplar Grove, formerly of Cheverie, Hants County, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on April 11, 1929, in Lynn, Massachusetts, USA, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Grace (Vaughan) Wilcox. Elinor is survived by her children, Wayne Burke (Jan Fraser), Windsor; Brenda (Nathaniel) Spence, Ellershouse; Howard "Howie" Burke, Martock; Charlene (George) Armstrong, Three Mile Plains; Caroline Burke, Oromocto, NB; Kathy (Paul) Sanford, Windsor; Lois (Jeff) Kidd, Sweets Corner; 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sister, Ethel MacAskill, Windsor; brothers, Ted (Joan) Wilcox, New Minas; Prescott Wilcox, Ottawa, ON; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Frederick and Grace (Vaughan) Wilcox; Elinor was predeceased by her husband, Charles "Junior" Burke (July 29, 2010); son, Charles Dana Burke; sisters, Greta and Winnifred. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Sunday, January 2, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Memorial service was 11 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Marlene Knowles officiated, assisted by Rev. Jeffrey White and Rev. Dr. Jeff Hosick. Interment was in the Newport Landing Cemetery, Avondale, Hants County. A special thanks to Bev Lyttle and the Palliative Care Team, at the Hants Community Hospital.
