McNabb, Robert Gordon - age 64, of Windsor, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2011, after a hard fought battle with Leukemia. Born on November 11, 1946, in Sydney, he was the son of the late J. Gordon and Phyllis (Austin) McNabb. Educated at Mt. Allison University, Rob was a high school teacher for over 30 years, spending the majority of his career at Hants West Rural High. He was also an active member of the Nova Scotia Teachers' Union, serving for many years as a contract negotiator at the provincial level and Treasurer of Hants West local NSTU. Rob will be greatly missed by his wife of 42 years, Susan (MacDougald); his daughter, Leslie (Alexander) Crowell, Porters Lake; his son, Andrew (Angela), Brooklin, Ontario. Also lovingly remembered by brothers, Sandy (Ann Marie), Sydney; Kent (Cathy Plumridge), Sydney; sisters, Judy MacDonald, Truro; and Shirley (John) Ross, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Nan (Larry) Brophy, Boston; godson, David Fitzgerald (Shimmer Lawrence), Grand Forks, BC; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gordon and Phyllis (Austin) McNabb; Rob was predeceased by brother-in-law, Jim MacDonald. Our heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care provided by the Hants Community Hospital - the palliative care team, ambulatory care and VON nurses. Special thanks to Bev Lyttle for her kindness and compassion. As per Rob's wishes there was no visitation, and cremation has taken place. Against his wishes, we celebrated his Life, at 7 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2011, at Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, 194 King Street, Windsor. Private interment of ashes to take place at a later date. Donations in his memory, were requested to be made to the Halifax office of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (1660 Hollis Street, Suite 305, Halifax, NS B3J 1V7) or consider giving the gift of life by donating a pint of blood in Rob's memory. In lieu of a traditional service, Bill Berryman, fellow teacher and long-time friend of Rob's, will call upon a few close friends and family members to share their memories of him (Dominique Henry, John Fitzgerald, Randy Matheson, Angela McNabb, Leslie McNabb and Sandy McNabb). Following the celebration of life, relatives and friends were invited to join the family for refreshments, next door at the Lindsay Family Reception Centre. Sue, Leslie and Andrew would like to express their deep appreciation for the many expressions of love, concern and kindness they have received.
