Gerald Stephen Gibbs, 83 yrs old, of Onslow Mountain, N.S., died peacefully in his sleep on January 15th, 2011, in the Magnolia Continuing Care Center in Enfield, Nova Scotia. He had been in failing health for the past year. Gerry was born in Truro and was the son of Elspie and Geoff Gibbs. He is survived by his wife Barbara; sons, David (Donna), Porters Lake, N.S., Tony (Cheryl), Dartmouth, N.S.; daughters, Wendy (Barry), Guelph, Ontario, Sheila (Mark), Lindsay, Ontario; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister, Irene, Newmarket, Ontario; brother, Owen, Saint John, N.B.; several nieces, nephews and their families. He will be much missed. Gerry served for 26 years in the Navy. After that he joined the Commissionaires and served there for several more years. After his retirement he enjoyed working in his garden, taking trips around the Maritimes and elsewhere, and bowling with a Tuesday afternoon seniors' league. He was an active member of the Baha'i Faith for many years. Funeral service will be at 2 pm on Thursday, January 20th, at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Interment will take place in the spring. Donations in Gerry's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Diabetes Association or any charity of one's choice.
