Mary Field
The death of Mary Field, age 96, of Port Elgin, occurred peacefully at the Drew Nursing Home, on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011. Born in Cape Tormentine, Mary was a daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Oulton) Burns. As a registered nurse, Mary was commissioned by the WMS to work in the mission hospitals. She worked in hospitals in both Ethelbert, Man. and Hearst, Ont. She was a member of the Trinity United Church and the WMS. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge and a former Red Cross volunteer. Mary will be sadly missed by one daughter, Elizabeth Field of Port Elgin; one son, John (Marg) Field of Moncton; two granddaughters, Kelly and Sherri; five great-grandchildren, Justin, Gabrielle, Jessica, Riley and Kate. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband David; three brothers, Borden, Harold, and Harry; and two sisters, Hilda Blacklock and Daisy Trenholm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Funeral Home, 3 W. Main St., Port Elgin (506-538-2241), from where visitation will take place Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Trinity United Church, Port Elgin on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. Burial will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery in the spring. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Trinity United Church, the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of your choice.
